A Whole Lotta Snake - New Look 6071

Don't worry!  Since this snake is pink, I think we are all safe.  Good Monday everyone!  I've been working on New Look 6071 and have finally finished it today.   What a fantastic pattern!
Everything went together beautifully, and I had a near perfect fit by cutting out the size 10.  The most difficult part of the process was laying out and cutting the matte jersey.  The instructions are well written with "workroom tips" to give you some other ways of finishing different parts of the dress.  I used my coverstitch machine to hem the neckline, sleeves, and dress.  The neckline is very low as noted by Kyle in her post.  I hand-stitched the lower 2 inches of the neckline together.  However, on the plus side, this neckline does not gape at all, even when bending forward.  I made view A with 3/4 length sleeves.  I only wish I had some strappy black heels, like the model on the pattern envelope above, to compliment the dress.  Hmmm....maybe I will put those on my Christmas list.  My cold-blooded knit came from Gorgeous Fabrics.  Love it!

Here is a close-up of the cross-over front detail.  This is not hard to make, however there are 4 layers of fabric where the bodice connects to the dress front, so you wouldn't want to use a fabric that is too thick.
Thanks again to everyone who commented on my last post.  Regarding the fabric in the background, yes, that is my fabric stash, what you can see of it :)  I have it organized by type i.e. linen, cottons, knits, etc.  I have stalled on finishing my sewing room remodel.  I'll have to finish that over the Christmas break.  There really isn't too much left.  I'd love to be able to show you the other two corners of the room and the flooring all finished.  Hope you are all having a great week!

Ooooo, now that's my kinda snake! The dress is fabulous, and I actually like the shoes you've chosen over the ones on the envelope.

Fabulous dress! I'm getting this pattern next week when it's on sale at my local fabric store. I liked it a lot before I saw yours. Now I want to make it immediately! It looks great on you.

This fabric is lovely, the dress looks great with the front like that, I usually stay away from cross over fronts because of how funny they can end up sitting!

Great dress! I have this pattern on the list so it's great to see another version made up. Fabulous fabric! And yes, you need those shoes for Christmas. A new dress deserves new shoes. Any excuse. :)

It looks great!! Great idea to sew it up so it's not so low cut. I wear mine with a purchased cami that I cut under the bustline to make like a shelf bra.

Got your package today, how fun!! :)

I like the crossover detail - it looks complicated. It really isn't? And a neckline that doesn't gape? I'm going to have to check out this line of patterns; I've never heard of "New Look" workroom...

Strappy black heels would be just the thing. Definitely one for the christmas list, even if you didn't have a dress that "wanted" them. I have a pair from clarks that I really love. They were my first "fancy" shoe purchase a couple of years ago when hubby finally convinced me to dress a bit better (or at least try, I've fallen off the wagon again lately) I paid full price for them but haven't regretted it - here they can easily be worn nearly every month of the year. I bet the same is true in Hawaii.

Happy thanksgiving!!

And may Isay, I am thoroughly impressed with the organization of your sewing room. Kevin has been encouraging me to start an etsy, and I probably will after the new year .. but being organized would certainly help!!

This looks very much like a "me" kind of pattern. I might just have to add that to my autumn sewing for next year.

You are right in style with your snakeskin pattern! You do such a nice job on knits. The front draping is a lovely touch and looks complicated!
I have a cover stitch machine, a Bernina funlock, I bought 8 years ago but I never could figure it out since I moved away and never got to take the class. The tension seems to be completely off but maybe I never threaded it correctly? What type of coverstitch machine do you have?

My, my you've been busy while I was on vacation...some very, very nice pieces! I can't wait to get started on my fall/winter sewing too!
